Make this winter your stay somewhere different. New hotels have opened at ski resorts across the country, offering ski-in/ski-out accommodations for a range of budgets. Whether you want to sleep for less than $50 a night or splurge with a personal concierge, we’ve got 10 new skier-approved hotels we’re thrilled to book a trip to.

Big Sky Mount

Big Sky, Montana

Montage Hotels and Resorts opened a new five-star Montana outpost in December 2021 on the slopes of big sky. Big Sky Mount (from $549) has 139 ultra-luxe rooms, including a collection of two- to six-bedroom residences. This sprawling resort, located in the private community of Spanish Peaks, includes an 11,000 square foot spa, its own chairlift to access Big Sky’s 5,850 skiable acres, and free rides around town. (Too expensive? The 130 rooms Huntley Lodgeat the base of Big Sky, recently underwent a complete renovation and rooms start at $259.)

Humbird Hotel

Schweitzer, Idaho

The 31 rooms Humbird Hotel (from $361) open to Idaho base Schweitzer ski area last February, offering the resort’s first ski-in ski-out boutique hotel at the base of the mountain’s 2,900 skiable acres. The hotel, designed by Portland-based Skylab Architecture, is named after the Humbird Lumber Company, which first attracted people to the area in the early 1900s. Rooms offer views of Lake Pend Oreille and access to a rooftop hot tub, ski lockers and boot dryers. Look for regular encounters with ski patrol dogs in the lobby. Grab some après-ski charcuterie, fondue, or a full dinner at the on-site bar and restaurant, Crow’s Bench.

Club A-Frame

Winter Park, Colorado

It’s not a traditional hotel, but we’re excited about this new property for its vintage design and vintage style. The Club A-Frame (from $550), located on a two-acre wooded property just minutes from skiing at winter park, is scheduled to open in December 2022 with 31 newly built A-frame cabins. You’ll stay in your own self-contained 1970s-inspired cabin, but you’ll have access to a communal gathering space and restaurant in an adjacent 4,660-square-foot lodge. Another Skylab project, each cabin sleeps up to four people in a comfortable 500 square feet and features a fireplace and hot tub.

Talta Bluebird Lodge

Stowe, Vermont

The 51 rooms Talta Lodge Bluebird (from $182) opened on the shores of Little River, a short drive from skiing at Stowe, in October 2021. Tälta is the Swedish word for camp and this boutique lodge has a distinct adventure base camp vibe: thoughtful storage spaces for gear, boot drying rooms, an indoor swimming pool and a sauna and outdoor fireplaces. Pet-friendly rooms offer easy access to grassy outdoor spaces, while other rooms offer private patios or terraces. Bluebird Hunter Lodge (from $197), a hotel from the same hotel group, opened this summer in New York’s Hudson Valley, minutes from the slopes of hunter’s mountain.

The Pug

Breckenridge, Colorado

Here is an easy-to-learn concept: restaurant on the ground floor, hotel on the top floor, ski slopes nearby. The three floors Pug (from $299) – which is dubbed a “restaurant with rooms” – will have a kitchen and an 80-seat restaurant on the ground floor, four hotel suites on the top floor and a tavern in the basement. It’s all housed in a historic building in downtown Breckenridge that recently underwent a $5 million interior and exterior renovation. Le Carlin is expected to open in late 2022. Skiing at Breckenridge is a few minutes away.

Pendry Park

Park City, UT

You will book a room at 153-room Pendry Park (starting at $335) for ski-to-door access to Park City Mountain Resortcovers 7,300 acres. But while you’re there, you might as well take advantage of the hotel’s perks, like four varied restaurants, a rooftop spa and pool, an on-site ski shop, a private snow “beach” off the slopes to enjoy crowd-free après-ski cocktails, and a kids’ club sure to delight your kids. Located in the village of Canyons, this new upscale hotel opened in February 2022.

Buffer

Silverthorne, Colorado

Looking for an affordable accommodation option near a variety of ski areas? Check Buffer (bunk beds from $42), which opened in late 2021, in Summit County, Colorado, with access to the slopes at Breckenridge, keystone, land of love, Arapahoe Basinand copper mountain, all within a short drive. This hostel/hotel — Colorado’s first lodging company to have pending B Corp status — was built out of repurposed shipping containers and features everything from bunk rooms to family-friendly private rooms. It also includes space for remote workers and a lively rooftop bar by the river.

The Virginian Lodge

Jackson, Wyoming

The Virginian Lodge (from $199) isn’t technically new — this Jackson Hole institution has been around since 1965 — but it’s been completely redone. The 165 revamped rooms, ranging from bunk rooms to suites, reopened last January, with new on-site dining offerings this fall, including the renovated Virginian Saloon and Ginny’s Bottle Shop, a liquor store. In a city full of posh and expensive hotels, the affordable rates of this retro pet-friendly RV are a welcome retreat. From the Virg, you are 20 minutes away for skiing at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

South Lake Tahoe, California

New hotel of desolation (from $349), within walking distance of Celestial gondola, opened near the California-Nevada state line in South Lake Tahoe in August. This dog-friendly retreat, named after nearby Desolation Wilderness, has 21 well-appointed suites and townhouses, each with its own private patio tub, as well as in-room kitchenettes and fireplaces. After skiing, enjoy a saltwater pool and cedar sauna, or head straight to Maggie’s, the third-floor restaurant, for truffle fries overlooking Lake Tahoe.

East Wind Lake Placid

Lake Placid, New York

A 1950s motorhome in the Adirondacks has been transformed into East Wind Lake Placid (from $259), which opened in August on nearly three acres adjacent to the Chubb River. You are 10 minutes from downtown Lake Placid and 30 minutes from skiing at white face. The Scandinavian-style boutique hotel has 17 rooms and eight self-contained cabins. Guests have access to yoga classes, a sauna, and a pool, and can request breakfast baskets delivered to their room.
