Alabama Swimmers Win Trio of 2022 CoSIDA All-District IV At-Large Academic Honors

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – A trio of swimmers from Alabama have earned a spot on the 2022 At-Large CoSIDA Academic All-District IV teams, Colleges of America sports information directors announced Thursday.

Morgan Liberto, Derek Maas and Nicholas Perera all earned the accolade for the second time and all three earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in 2021 and are now advancing to this year’s Academic All-America At-Large national ballot.

Unlike other All-America varsity teams which represent a single sport, the general programs cover multiple sports for men and women. The general women’s team includes beach volleyball, bowling, rowing, field hockey, fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle shooting, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis and water polo, while men include fencing, golf, gymnastics. , ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo, volleyball and wrestling. Each school is also limited to just four male and four female nominees.

Liberto, an All-American, earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in public administration in May through Alabama’s accelerated master’s program, maintaining a 4.0 GPA in both degree programs.

Maas, an All-American and SEC champion, earned a 4.0 GPA in biology on the premedical track in May. Perera, also an All-American, earned his undergraduate 4.0 GPA in Mechanical Engineering.
