The Black Cats are on the verge of the top two after an 11-game unbeaten streak in the league, and will enter automatic promotion spots for the first time since April 2019 if they can seal victory at London Road.
But in their path stands a team from Peterborough which is itself aiming for the top two and which has top scorer Jonson Clarke-Harris in its ranks.
It promises to be an intriguing afternoon, and Lee Johnson will have to decide whether to stay or turn away from the side that beat Oxford United on Friday. Denver Hume and Aiden O’Brien will push for starts, while Jordan Jones could feature again.
Our team will be in Peterborough throughout the afternoon with all team news, game updates and big game analysis.

There is no denying that this is a big day for Sunderland and their Ligue 1 promotion hopes as they head to Peterborough United.
The Black Cats are unbeaten in their last 11 league outings and travel to a currently second Posh team.
While not quite the decisive factor, there will be plenty of eyes on this game today – and you can follow it here.
So let’s go, okay?

Lee Johnson spoke before the game
The Sunderland head coach offered his take on the clash – and the state of the London Road pitch.
Of course if you win the game it gives you a boost.
That’s why we have to keep learning from every game and we can’t have that 15-20 minute period that we had in the first half here at Peterborough because they will take advantage of it.
You’ll have seen the Peterborough pitch, it’s almost like tumbleweed in the sense that it gets faster when you pass the ball.
Peterborough is playing very well on this ground. They have good footballers who are almost throwing volleys so that will be a consideration when I pick the team.
Will we see Denver Hume for Sunderland today?
The full-back was not on Sunderland’s squad to face Oxford United on Friday but has warmed up with the teams as he accelerates his comeback.
Hume has a few minutes of play under his belt with the Under-23 team and Johnson will have to decide if today is the day to reintroduce him to the first team.
What are the odds for Peterborough United against Sunderland?
The bookmakers have this as a matter of proximity!
SkyBet has an odds of 17/10 for Peterborough United to win, while Sunderland can be backed at 6/4. The draw is 11/5.
And for once, Charlie Wyke is not the favorite to open the scoring!
Jonson Clarke-Harris is 16/5 to score the opening goal.
(all odds correct at 9 a.m. on Monday April 5)
Darren Ferguson also downplays today’s game
The Peterborough boss says it’s not a game that will define his season.
We can now expect a big game on Monday against Sunderland, live on TV at home. It’s just a shame that there aren’t any fans to see him in the stadium.
This game will not define our season because there will still be a lot of points to play.
It’s a big victory for us. The goal came late and it is often the best moment to score because the opponent does not have time to come back to us.
The latest from the Sunderland and Peterborough squad
Here’s how the two teams are preparing for the match …
Sunderland will choose from the same group of players that faced Oxford United.
The game will come too soon for Bailey Wright and Tom Flanagan, while Arbenit Xhemajli and Jordan Willis are on longer term absences.
Denver Hume and Jordan Jones could return, while Aiden O’Brien could also return to the roster.
The Poshs also have no further injury concerns following their victory at Fleetwood Town last week.
Siriki Dembele and Jack Taylor were substitutes in this clash and could come back into the fold against the Black Cats, but the game will likely come too soon for young defenseman Ronnie Edwards.
How can I watch Peterborough United vs Sunderland? Is it on TV?
Peterborough United v Sunderland will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Football.
You can also stream the game through NowTV, but SAFSee and iFollow coverage will not be available in the UK.
Positive news on Jordan Jones!
Jordan Jones wants to join Sunderland permanently this summer after impressing Rangers on loan
That’s according to a report released this morning by Football Insider.
The Northern Ireland international joined Sunderland on loan from Rangers in January and has impressed in red and white so far this season.
The striker scored a rocket in the 2-2 draw against Crewe and was instrumental in Sunderland’s victories over Portsmouth and Oxford United.
A “recruiting source” reportedly told Football Insider that Jones would like to get a full time at the Stadium of Light when his loan expires.
Rangers won’t oppose Jones’ exit if their asking price of around £ 600,000 is reached.
