JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Georgia handled Florida on Saturday to go 8-0 this season with No. 3 Tennessee hiding next week.

After a slow start to the second half, the Bulldogs responded with a few touchdowns to take control of the game. Georgia wins 42-20 and will face Tennessee next week in what could be a top-2 game.

After 17 unanswered points in Florida and a pair of turnovers in Georgia, the Bulldogs respond with a 6-play, 78-yard drive to extend the lead to 35-20. Daijun Edwards finished the drive with a 22-yard touchdown run.

It was a terrible start to the second half for Georgia as Florida scored 17 unanswered points. The Gators connect on a 78-yard touchdown pass to cut a 28-3 lead in Georgian football to 28-20 with 3:31 left in the third quarter.

Nolan Smith of Georgia, the senior outside linebacker who is one of the Bulldogs’ best defensive players, left the game in the first quarter with what CBS called a left shoulder injury and did not return to the game . CBS said he was out for the game.

Smith leads Georgia this season with 3 sacks and entered the game tied for fifth on the team with 16 tackles.

Florida kicker Adam Mihalek threw a 52-yard field goal to cut Georgia’s lead to 21-3 with 5:35 left in the second quarter. It’s quite a career for the freshman in the red shirt. Kelee Ringo gave up a long pass on the drive.

Brock Bowers somehow found a way to recover a ball that seemed difficult to control on the left side which he recovered for a 73-yard touchdown. Bulldogs 21-0 with 12:36 to go in the first half.

Georgia’s offense uses the tempo to wear down Florida. The Bulldogs are coming up 14-0 after a 2-yard touchdown from Kenny McIntosh. Brock Bowers had a catch for 19 yards and Darnell Washington another 25. There are 1:30 remaining in the first quarter.

Georgia rushed for 66 yards in 8 plays, getting a 1-yard touchdown by Daijun Edwards with 7:15 left in the first quarter.

Stetson Bennett is now 5 of 7 for 74 yards after hitting Brock Bowers twice on the drive for 33 yards and Darnell Washington another tight end for 13 yards.

Tight end Arik Gilbert, who scored a touchdown against Vanderbilt, warms up. Running back Kendall Milton is also here after missing the last game with a groin injury, but Smart told the radio show he might not go. Milton wore shorts during warm-ups but is now fully clothed. He’s getting reps behind Kenny McIntosh so maybe he’ll go.

Georgia wears helmet stickers today in honor of Bulldogs sports legend Charley Trippi, who died earlier this month.

Athletic director Josh Brooks said on UGA’s pre-game radio show that Dooley and Trippi will be honored in next week’s home game.

There’s been a lot of talk on the Georgia side about preparing for Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson, who made his first college start in this game last year.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart called Richardson “super talented as a runner and thrower. He has a bazooka for his arm. We have already seen it. He’s really, really hard to attack and they do a good job of moving him, misdirecting plays, getting him out of the pocket. You can tell he’s getting more and more comfortable with Billy’s system.

Billy Napier is Florida’s third head coach to face Kirby Smart who is 4-2 against the Gators when Jim McElwain and Dan Mullen coached.

“I don’t think anyone walks around this building, almost everyone understands the stuff that comes with this game,” said Napier, who grew up watching the game in Georgia and is in his first season with the Gators. “Our players are well aware. We have a good percentage who played in this game. We have another percentage that grew watching the game. So we all understand the history and lore behind this game.”

“It’s exciting for me because it’s a game I’ve watched my whole life,” outside linebacker Nolan Smith said. “I’m a kid from Savannah and I used to go to Jacksonville to go to camps with my mom. I’m really excited to play in this game. As a kid from Savannah, I feel the time and it feels so good. This breeze makes me feel like I’m home and playing at home again.

Brunswick-born offensive tackle Warren McClendon said: Growing up, it was always a huge experience. Everyone comes to town, cooks, the family comes back to town. Growing up was a huge experience for me.
