But who are we fooling? Most girls prefer the tailgating, watching the parties and the sports bar scene to what is actually happening on the grass or on our TV screens. (Girls who are forced to watch football by their friends, we’re watching you!)
So what should girls wear to a tailgate, Sunday night watch party, or their favorite sports bar? I remember back when I was in college this question would crop up every Friday night before game day and lead to frantic dumping in the closets as my roommates and I desperately searched The clothe.
For better or for worse, soccer game style has become a veritable fashion show, and for the girls trying to keep up with the game “couture” without breaking the bank, we’ve got you covered.
Here are some suggestions to spice up your outfits and look cute on game day.
White tennis skirts
The white tennis skirts will look cute with any gameday t-shirt and are pretty cheap on Amazon. Pair these cute white skirts with a gameday t-shirt – cropped or tied at the waist – and white sneakers. Add a denim jacket if you want a little something extra, or even pair it with a crew neck sweatshirt with your school logo if the weather is chilly. This feminine-sporty look never fails.
Oversized t-shirts are your best friends. Dad’s old college t-shirts? A cheap oversized men’s shirt at your university bookstore? Tip: Men’s t-shirts are often cheaper than women’s t-shirts at college bookstores, and they make for very cute match outfits. Try wearing an oversized t-shirt with cowgirl boots and denim shorts for a country look. Or, look on Pinterest for the variety of ways to cut and style a plain t-shirt to make it more festive!
Denim jackets don’t have to be boring. Find iron-on patches of your team logo on Etsy, Amazon, or even eBay. Adding the logo to the back of your denim jacket, or stars and other cute designs, is a tried and true way to elevate any look.
Summer dresses in your team colors are often the best match attire. Pair a cute sundress with a baseball cap with your school logo, and you’re sure to look like a girl. Who says girls can’t be feminine while watching football?
Find local thrift stores and Walmart near your school. Often these locations have cute and affordable t-shirts, sweatshirts, and sweaters in your team colors, or even with your team logo on them! Shopping at a local thrift store in college helped me find adorable vintage pieces at incredibly good prices. Plus, whether you find any cute pieces or not, it’s a fun outing with your girlfriends!
Head to your local Dollar Tree, Walmart, or even Amazon for glitter, cute headbands/bandanas, cheap obnoxious sunglasses, or a cute plastic cowgirl hat/baseball cap in your school colors. Adding just a little sparkle and fun can make your outfit stand out and be a good laugh with friends.
Do you have cowgirl boots or a cowgirl hat? Add them! Adding a bit of country to any look is very right now – and PSA, cowgirl boots are surprisingly comfortable walking shoes.
Finding outfits for game day can be stressful, especially when you feel like you’ve exhausted your clothing options, but don’t want to spend all your savings on clothes. By following a few of these tips, you’ll look cute, girly, and sporty while cheering on your favorite team to victory.
