Last day of West Ham deadline: Three starts as Reid, Afolayan and Alese leave on loan

Experienced international Winston Reid left the Hammers in a to lend move which sees him cross the capital to join the promotion in pursuit of Brentford for the rest of the season.

Later on the day of the transfer deadline, West Ham confirmed that youngsters Oladapo Afolayan and Aji Alese have also left the London Stadium on loans to lower league clubs.

Afolayan made his debut just nine days ago scoring just eight minutes into his first senior appearance for the club.

His FA Cup goal against Doncaster Rovers was the fourth in a 4-0 win as they progressed to a fifth-round draw with Manchester United next Wednesday.

The 23-year-old striker joined League Two side Bolton Wanderers until the end of the season in a bid to help the club avoid relegation to the National League.

This is Afolayan’s third loan spell away from West Ham since joining in 2018 from non-league Solihull Moors.

With his Hammers contract expiring this summer, Afolayan will no doubt be hoping to impress during his time in Ligue 2.

Alese has also made a temporary commitment to a Ligue 2 side, but with different goals from Bolton this season.

The 20-year-old defender has joined Cambridge United for the next five months in a bid to help the U stay top of the table and secure promotion to League One.

Alese is an England U20 international and made his debut for the Hammers earlier this season in the 5-1 win over Hull City in the League Cup.

There have been three exits from the London Stadium so far, but no entries so far on transfer deadline day.

West Ham had earlier today been linked with former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa by sky sports and Italian football journalist Tancred Palmeri.

However, understand that there is no truth in these rumours.
