BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – The Town of Pelham is hosting its annual Fire on the Water event at Oak Mountain State Park on Sunday evening from 5-9 p.m.
The event will offer many activities for families.
Anna Jones, events coordinator at Oak Mountain State Park, said one of the main things guests should be aware of is that on July 3, this Sunday, they will be closing both gates, the north gate and the south gate. , to 19h.
“Please plan ahead and come early, we don’t want you to miss the event,” Jones said.
When attending the event, it is important to stay hydrated throughout the day. The park will provide several water bottle filling stations.
Pelham Town Fire Chief Mike Reid said that in the event of an emergency, there will be paramedics and paramedics on scene.
“We’re here for any type of water rescue, we have our water rescue team, our dive team is on hand as well,” Reid said.
When you get to the park there is a new roundabout just before the entrance to help with traffic this year.
As for exiting the park, Pelham Police Chief Patt Cheatwood explains the new traffic plan.
“After the fireworks, you can go to the intersection of John Findlay and Terrace Drive and go right to get to Route 119 if you’re going to the Briarwood area,” Cheatwood said. “Or you can go left to exit the National Park entrance gate, or you can turn right onto Terrace Drive to exit at what we call Staff Housing Road.”
The Chief encourages parents to take pictures of their children in their clothes for the day in case a child or parent is lost at the event.
