Racers drop out of close game against SIU

Murray State lost a hard-fought 1-0 game to Southern Illinois Thursday night in Carbondale, Illinois. The loss ends the Racers’ five-game unbeaten streak in the Missouri Valley Conference game.

MSU appeared to be the stronger team for much of the competition with a 13-5 advantage in shot count. The Racers had several great chances in the first half as Lauren Payne the header drew a huge save from the SIU keeper.

The Racers had three shots on target in the game, including two from Payne and audrey henry have one.

The only goal of the game came in the 84e minute when the Salukis were awarded a penalty. SIU was able to convert on the spot to earn the lead that would last full time.

Hailey Cole impressed in her first game in two weeks with several key runs in an attacking midfield role while making four shots.

Murray State will focus on Valparaiso as MSU hosts the Beacons for the final home game of the season. The game is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
