  • I usually never buy anything from ads, but I had to have these Blenders Eclipse sunglasses.
  • I love their retro 1980s look and also use them for my outdoor cycling workouts.
  • They are similar to athletic sunglasses with similar designs, but they are also much cheaper at $60.

I’m generally pretty resistant to ads and like to think they don’t work on me because, well, I don’t like ads. But when I saw an ad for these sunglasses while browsing Instagram, I knew I had to have them.

I present to you the Eclipse model in the Saturn Cloud color option from the Blenders sunglasses company, worn by yours truly.

I love retro-inspired gear, especially from the 80s, and these sunglasses from Blenders reminded me of the wraparound sunglasses that were popular back then. To be clear, I was born in 1986, so I remember the 90s more clearly. But in 2022, I find myself nostalgic for the aesthetics of the 80s.

There is definitely a sense of irony that crosses my mind when I wear them. At the same time, I love how different they are from the sea of popular sunglasses I often see these days, like the Ray-Ban Wayfarer style, which was also very common in the 1980s. a ton of unique sunglasses, but the loud retro look just appeals to me.

It’s weird that I like it so much because I’m not a loud person, and I don’t really like to stand out and get attention in public. I generally prefer to wear the Eclipse around friends and family who know me, and it depends on my mood. When I’m feeling more conservative, I wear my Sunski Madronas – a pair of Wayfarer-style sunglasses with a matte tortoiseshell frame and mirrored blue lenses.

However, the Eclipse also doubles as my outdoor cycling goggle, and I wear them on every ride with impunity.

Design aside, the $60 Eclipse was within the price range I set myself for sunglasses – I don’t like to spend too much, as I once lost an expensive pair of Oakleys and I swore to myself never to spend more than $100 on sunglasses. The wrap style is still popular among athletes, many of whom would give that retro style I so crave. But these often cost upwards of $100.

The only thing I would change about them is to remove the plastic frame piece right in the middle of the lens. Otherwise, I find them perfectly comfortable to wear. Also, the lenses are polarized and they provide 100% UV protection, which is what I was specifically looking for before buying them.
